Used as an aromatic herb in the kitchen to bring its fine flavor or as part of a polyculture for your marijuana, chervil is a great friend against unwanted pests.

A delicate, shade-loving plant, chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium) resembles an Italian parsley with thinner or flatter leaves, but with an anise or licorice flavor. Known in Ancient Rome, it was used along with its roots to add aroma to soups or chewed to suppress appetite.

Its flowers with white and mauve petals add an attractive touch of color to the understory of your summer crop.  It grows to sixty centimeters tall, so prune and trim the plant constantly to delay flowering for a strong, healthy bush.

Planted in a polyculture with dill and coriander, you will get a barrier of beneficial plants that will surround your marijuana and keep it safe. It repels aphids and whiteflies, while attracting bees and small parasitic wasps that feed on the larvae of undesirable insect species.

Chervil should be sown directly into the ground. Scatter the seeds in a shallow furrow and water the area well. In two weeks you should be able to pluck a few shoots and in six weeks they will be ready to eat. Allowing some flowers to mature and self-pollinate will provide a new batch year after year.
