Lemon balm
Lemon balm is a very versatile companion plant. Medicine, culinary herb and insect repellent.
Lemon balm attracts beneficial insects, repels harmful insects and helps to mask the smell of cannabis when used as a companion plant.
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) belongs to the mint family and has been used in recipes and as a medicinal plant for centuries. Ptolemy praised this herb in ancient Greece. As with all mints, this versatile plant multiplies quickly, quickly gaining ground and choking out other plants.
It is advisable to grow lemon balm in pots to keep it in check, it likes shady places and is an herb that needs no care to grow. The only thing recommended is to pluck the flower spike frequently to stimulate growth.
As a companion plant to cannabis, lemon balm repels mosquitoes and gnats, while attracting beneficial pollinators to your crop. Its crushed leaf can be applied to insect bites, and it is believed that the infusion of melissa improves memory, although it is more commonly used for its relaxing and revitalizing properties.
At the end of the season, the lemon balm loses its leaves and hibernates during the winter, to re-emerge with strength come spring. In fact, the reappearance of the plant is a good time to start the germination of marijuana.
